A life story theatre performance exploring dementia through lived experience.

Memoria brought together people living with dementia, family members, and a care home manager to co-create a Life Story theatre performance exploring the complex experiences of dementia. Performed at Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff to sold out audiences and live streamed across the world, the production created an important shared space where stories and experiences that were rarely heard publicly could be witnessed.

Mark Drakeford, then Health Minister for Wales, attended a performance and the stories shared by the group later helped influence Wales’ first Dementia Action Plan. The group continued sharing their experiences for many years afterwards with health and social care professionals, NHS leaders, students, and policy makers across Wales.

“Everyone needs to watch this show. It’s so important for us all.” — Audience response

“Since this Alzheimer’s came, it’s all gone… Apart from when I come here, I can express myself. That’s why I need this, I need a chance to be me again.” — Jeannette, Memoria participant
